The main difference between quartz and quartzite is that quartz is a man-made material, while quartzite is a natural stone.
Quartzite is a tougher material than granite, which makes it quite durable. Registering between a 7 and 8 on the Moh's scale. Quartz is also a tough material, measuring just slightly under quartzite on the scale.
When it comes to heat, quartzite withstands high temperatures very well. Quartz does not preform as well against heat due to the resin in it is plastic and prone to melting in heat above 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
Quartz does have the upper hand when it comes to chipping due to the fact it is a more flexible material.
Quartz requires little to no maintenance and can be cleaned with just a damp rag. On the other hand, quartzite requires a bit more TLC.
Unlike quartz, quartzite is recommended to be sealed at least once a year. Although, when properly sealed, quartzite is no problem to clean up after.
Quartzite typically resembles marble, with a white stone and grey lines. There are many looks of quartzite making each slab unique.
Quartz has a resin in it making it a smoother surface. It can also achieve a wide spectrum of colors due to it being a man-made material.
